Eyewitnesses said the grenade missed the target and landed near a chinar tree, blowing up with a powerful explosion.
Seven persons, including four women and one CRPF man, were injured in the blast.
The attack took place at around 12:45 p.m. when the busy area was teeming with people going about their usual business.
The injured have been identified as Firdous Hussein son of Mohammad Akbar of Malbuchan Magam, Rukhsana daughter of Ghulam Mohammad Wani of Utki Tangmarg, Sara wife of Mohammad Ashraf of Kandhama, Seerat Shafi daughter of Mohammad Shafi of Narbal, Zabina Akhtar daughter of Ghulam Ahmad Reshi, Jaameel daughter Riyaz Ahmad, both residents of Pinjoora Tangmarag and Ishwar Singh 176 battalion CRPF.
Off late valley has seen a sudden spurt in grenade blasts with as many as six blasts occurring within a span of little over a fortnight.
Late on the Thursday evening, suspected militants made an abortive bid to bomb a police station at Pattan. On July 6, a similar bid was made at Sopore police station while the other day, the gunmen attacked police station in Baramulla in which there was no loss of life or damage to property.
