Srinagar, Nov 11:  Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday fixed Tuesday next for hearing arguments in contempt plea moved by Syed Ali Shah Geelani—the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), against police for curtailing his freedom in violation of the court orders.
The Court of Justice Hakeem Imtiyaz Hussain also directed for distributing inquiry report by its appointed commissioner—Registrar High Court—among the counsel for petitioner and the government.
According to reports, soon after hearing in the case started this morning, the registrar Abdul Rashid Malik submitted the enquiry report before the court.
Pertinently, the commissioner had recorded the statements of the octogenarian, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his associates at office cum residence of the veteran leader at Hyderpora yesterday.
While listing the case for arguments on next Tuesday, the court directed for distribution of the photo copies of the inquiry report among the counsel for petitioner and the government.
The High Court on Monday last had issued notice to five officials including Director General of Police—Kuldeep Khoda in the contempt plea by the Hurriyat chairman besides appointment of commissioner to make on-the-spot observations about the complaints made in the petition.
On Thursday last, the aged leader had filed a contempt petition against five officials, which besides the director-general of police include deputy commissioner, Budgam and three Station House Officers of Budgam, Humhama and Sadar police stations.
It is in place to mention here that on October 23, the High Court had asked government not to hinder his movement unless stating proper justification within the purview of the law.
Disposing off the petition challenging restrictions on the movement of the Hurriyat leader, Chief Justice Barin Ghosh had declared that there was no justification on part of the government in curbing his movement.
It was after the October 09 interim order of the High Court that restrictions clamped on the movement of Syed Ali Shah Geelani were lifted.
Prior to the orders, the Hurriyat leader remained under house arrest in his residential cum Hurriyat Conference office at Hyderpora since his release on September 08 after 95-days.
