In a statement the party said it had ironically come at a time when the state government was claiming to upgrade the Government Medical College to the level of All India Medical Institute.
The spokesman said that as a result of this unfortunate decision the faculties of Dermatology and Ophthalmology have been debarred from conducting master’s courses and awarding degrees, an eloquent commentary on government’s pipe dreams and hollow slogans.
The spokesman said the reports suggested that the response by the government required only minor changes in the hierarchical set up of the two faculties. It is unfortunate, he said that the government was impervious to the suggestions and had damaged the career prospects of much needed professional specialists. The fact that this will affect the patient care goes without saying, the spokesman added.
The spokesman said health and medical facilities in the state left much to be desired and with the insensitive approach to the problems of Government Medical College Srinagar the difficulties faced by people would only be compounded.
Referring to constant reports on the state of Major Health institutions, the spokesman said the Lal Ded hospital was in a pathetic condition with every bed shared by patients. The hygienic and sanitation conditions of this and other hospitals was a cause of worry but unable to move the government to take action, the spokesman alleged.
