Alongside the workshop, an investigative camp was organized in the diagnostic wing of the department in SMHS hospital from November 9 to 13, 2009, wherein thousands of specialized investigations including thyroid profile, lipid profile, reproductive endocrinology, autoimmune profile, tumor markers were done free of cost. Normally these tests are performed in the laboratory at fraction of market rates at no profit no loss basis in the interest of poor patients.
The valedictory function was held in the GMC auditorium on November 18, 2009 attended by several dignitaries. The chief guest on the occasion was Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Professor Reyaz Punjabi. Besides, HODs of various departments of the University of Kashmir, SKIMS, Soura and distinguished guests were present.
The Principal, Government Medical College Professor, Shahida Mir and the Head of department of Biochemistry, Dr. Sabhiya Majid thanked the Vice Chancellor for granting status of a research center to the Department of Biochemistry, Government Medical College, Srinagar for awarding M. Phil and Ph. D degrees.
The Vice Chancellor on this occasion highlighted the importance of medical education and congratulated the Principal Medical College for her keen efforts to bring the institution at par with the premier institutions of the country.
The Head of Department of Biochemistry, Dr. Sabhiya Majid highlighted the importance of immunological techniques in era of investigation based diagnostics. Many informative lectures were delivered by the dignitaries like Prof. Mushtaq Siddique, HOD of Immunology and Molecular Medicine, SKIMS Soura, Dr. Shariq Rashid Masoodi, Additional Professor, Department of Endocrinology, SKIMS Soura, Dr. Mohammad Hayat Bhat, Lecturer, Department of Medicine, GMC, Srinagar and Dr. Farooq Sheikh Department of Biochemistry, GMC, Srinagar.
