The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and the minister for rural development, Ali Muhammad Sagar, were among the numerous separatist and mainstream leaders who joined intellectuals, writers, journalists and a huge number of people from other walks of life visiting Bhat’s residence to pay tribute to the doyen among journalists.
In his homage, Malik said that Bhat had practiced a high sense of values, and left behind an imprint that would be a guide for future journalists.
“Khwaja sahib had stepped into the field when there was no concept of journalism in Kashmir, and made a name for himself in the profession,” Malik said.
“The journalists of today are duty-bound to be bold and fearless like Khwaja sahib in discharging their professional duties,” he said.
Speakers at the prayer meeting recalled Bhat’s services, saying that apart from being a path-breaking journalist, he had been a great man who had ventured into the field during extremely trying times.
“Khwaja sahib had upheld high literary values when it was impossible to do so, and we are indebted to him for his contribution to the world of letters,” they said.
