Mufti said the initiative is in line with post 2003 efforts by the governments to open a new chapter in south Asia that could free its people from the historic baggage of hostility and mistrust. He expressed the hope that Dr Singh’s offer would find a matching and appropriate response from Pakistan that he said could also help in concretizing the gains Pakistan’s current war on terror and lift shadows of terror from entire region.
Mufti said people of Jammu & Kashmir have been looking forward to a broad based and structured dialogue between India and Pakistan which could solve the six decade old problem. He said the two countries must try to avoid pitfalls and hiccups which had interrupted the dialogue process in the past as had happened in the wake of Mumbai attacks in 2008. “Enemies of peace will continue to create hurdles but the political leadership of the two countries must rise to the occasion and work together to make negative elements irrelevant”.
Mufti said the external dimension of Kashmir problem will have to be addressed along with the internal dimension as well. He said internal dialogue must also be stepped up and all the stake holders involved in the process. He said all voices must be considered and given an opportunity to contribute to the resolution of the problem which is once again pushing the people of the state to despair and street protests.
