Kargil bids adieu to Sheikh Musa

KARGIL: More than 25,000 people joined the funeral ceremony of Imam Juma Kargil, Hujatul Islam Sheikh Musa Shariefi this morning.

Nimaz-e-Janaza was offered at Inqilab Manzil at 11 am and was led by deputy Imam Jamia Hujatul Islam Sheikh Hussain Muqaddas. The coffin of late Imam was taken in procession to his native village Chutumail, 15 km away from Kargil.

A pall of gloom had descended on Kargil where markets remained closed in respect as funeral procession passed through the town.

People from all sections of the society took part in the funeral. They included religious scholars from Islamia School Kargil, Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil, Anjuman-e-Behbudiyae Sadat, Sahibe Zaman, Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamat, Kargil, Ullama from Leh, Advisor to CM, Qamar Ali Akhoon, MOS Feroz Ahmad Khan, MLC Kargil Syed Ahmad Razvi, Executive Councilor Sheikh Mohamad Hussain Raizi, Ex CEC Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran and scores of dignitaries, luminaries and prominent citizens of Ladakh.

After the Nimaz and funeral ceremony while offering fatiha speakers paid tributes to the departed religious scholar for his contribution as religious leader, Imam, teacher and social reformer of Kargil.

Sheikh will be remembered for his contribution towards Muslim unity and spiritual upliftment of the society.

Late Shiekh Sharifi had exceptionally a great command and appeal among the people all over Ladakh and he always used this as an instrument for peace and unity among different ideologies and sects in the area. This great virtue owned by the departed soul was repeatedly highlighted and praised by the orators today accepting that a vacuum is left there by the sad demise of Imam Jamia.

Sheikh was born in the village of Akchamal in the year 1942 and received basic education in religious studies from Sheikh Rahmatullah a religious scholar from his native village.

On the compilation of the basic course of Quran and Islamic studies (Diniyat) here in Kargil Shiekh Sharifi migrated to Najaf Ashraf in Iraq for higher studies. During his 20 years stay in Iraq he contributed to that society as a religious mudaris (Teacher). Sheikh returned  to Kargil in 1971 and continued his religious services as teacher.

Associated with Islamia School Kargil Mussa Shariefi offered services as Principal Huza Ilmia Kargil for about a decade and has been the Imam-e-Jamia Masjid Kargil from the last many years.
