Hurriyat (G) Chief To Expose Hands Behind Sectarian Violence Today
SRINAGAR (ONS) - The police on Wednesday barricaded Syed Ali Shah Geelani in his Hyderpora residence, preventing him from leading a peace march in lower Srinagar, the Hurriyat (G) said, claiming that its chairman would on Thursday expose people involved in promoting sectarian violence in Kashmir.
“The police threw a heavy ring around the residence, and as soon as Geelani stepped out, he was blocked by a large posse of policemen led by two officers,” a spokesman said.
Geelani was to offer noon prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Habibullah Naushehri and lead a peace march in trouble-hit Old City areas where curfew was lifted after six day yesterday.
According to the Hurriyat (G) spokesman, police had been deployed even on the Airport Road besides placing Geelani’s house under siege since morning today, and no one, including general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, senior leader Muhammad Shafi Reshi and Geelani’s personal secretary Peer Saifullah, was allowed entry.
“On stepping out at around 1 p.m. when Geelani insisted that the police get out of his way, the two officers – SHO Budgam Muhammad Rafi Shah and the officer- in-charge of the Humhama post – refused to budge,” the spokesman said.
“After contacting the superintendent of the police for Budgam on phone, the SHO said that the administration was totally averse to allowing the peace march,” he said.
“Geelani told the police officers that they were committing a big crime for which they would have to answer before the public,” he said.
In a separate statement, the Hurriyat (G) said that Geelani would hold a press conference at Hyderpora on Thursday to people “involved in conspiracies to promote sectarian violence in Kashmir
At the press conference scheduled at 12 noon, Geelani will also apprise people of the Hurriyat (G) stand “on several key issues” and announce his further course of action, it said.
Further, the alliance has scheduled a seminar at Hyderpora on World Human Rights Day on Saturday.
