Srinagar: In a volatile area of South Kashmirs Tral, Government on Monday removed a ten year old CRPF bunker located at the main bus stand..
According to KNS correspondent, Tral which is considered as hot bed of militancy, witnessed a series of protests after the two youth, one of them civilian, were killed in the course of the gun battle with the forces. Locals while pitching for the removal of the bunker from the area had appealed to state authorities to take measures so that the bunker occupied by the CPRF could be removed.
Locals said that the presence of the bunker was affecting the normal life in the area and had become the focal point during the protests and stone pelting incidents.
Locals added that whenever a protest used to take place in the area, the youth would target the bunker and pelt stones at it. We are relieved that at last the bunker has been removed and the area can now heave a sigh of relief, locals told KNS.
In last year also, the civil society and traders of Tral area had called for a strike to press for their demand over the removal of the bunker. However, due to the occurrence of the floods, the process was delayed last year.
During the recent killings in Tral, protestors targeted the bunker once again. Several people were also injured during the stone pelting incidents.
Talking to KNS, Superintendent of Police (SP) Awantipora Mohammad Irshad said there was no use of the bunker at Bus stand Tral and therefore it was removed.
Locals while hailing the efforts of Police and civil administration said such efforts would help the area to look forward to the better days ahead.
