NEW DELHI: The latest bouquet of popular TV serials from Pakistan being aired in India on the Zee Entertainment platforms Zindagi channel, have become quite a success.
One of the big reasons is the oomph-factor of the male cast of these serials, most of who are rapidly setting hearts ablaze, winning over a firm female following across the border, as they offer that elusive combination of good looks, style, charm and ethnic appeal, especially, because they are so different from the usual faces on the telly in India, and still seem so identifiable and close-to-home compared to American or British actors, who are the only other alternative to Bollywood stars for Indian audiences.
The massive exposure to Indian audiences for these Pakistani actors has also opened up a range of opportunities and offers for them, as they land lucrative modelling assignments and Bollywood offers apart from earning a legion of female fans.
Fawad Afzal Khan popularly known as Zaroon Junaid of Pakistans top ranked TV show ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ is one such example. Indiatvnews.com reports that he is all set to make his Bollywood debut with a remake of Khoobsurat, to be paired with Sonam Kapoor and that he could also be working on another film, opposite Kareena Kapoor. He made his film debut in Pakistan, back in 2007 with Khuda Kay Liye which was the highest-grossing Pakistani film of 2007.
Fawad, who was first known for being the lead singer of Pakistani rock band Entity Paradigm, has received two Lux Style Awards (dubbed “Pakistan’s Oscars) and has established himself as one of Pakistan’s highest-paid actors. ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’, made Fawad a superstar and his show went on to become Pakistan’s highest rated serial.
As a showstopper for numerous fashion weeks including PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week & India Bridal Fashion Week, Fawad has managed to land himself some of Pakistans biggest modelling projects.
The other hot model from Pakistan is Osman Khalid Butt. He is an actor, director, journalist and writer known in Pakistan for his role in Aik Nayee Cinderella, as well as Aunn Zara, but popular with Indian audiences only as the innocent and naive Aunn from Aunn Zara. Born to a Kashmiri father and a mother of mixed French and Polish descent, Butt has inherited quite a gene pool in the looks department, which has earned him the description- the Pakistani Orlando Bloom.
With their look, style sense and attitude slowly and steadily these actors are cementing their foothold in the Indian entertainment industry and could be here to stay.
